The Public Health Disparities Geocoding Project Monograph is the website to the wonderful project led by her group. If you couldn’t attend the seminar, this site contains most of the information presented at the seminar. Site also contains detailed public health geocoding methodological information and should be brought to the attention of faculty, students, public health practitioners and policy makers interested in health disparities.
We would like to thank the Department of Geography once again for their co-sponsorship and collegiality, the Connecticut Department of Public Health for being a major motivation for Nancy Krieger to agree to come and speak to us, and to PRLACC for allowing us to use their seminar room.
The Center for the Study of Culture, Health, and Human Development (CHHD) is pleased to announce the 2007 spring colloquium series and related 1-credit graduate seminar. The seminar is a core part of the CHHD Graduate Certificate Program, which is designed to give graduate students a foundation in interdisciplinary thinking and research on health and human development in cultural context. The CHHD is a university-wide center for research, training, and outreach, with affiliated departments including Anthropology, Community Medicine and Health Care, Educational Psychology, Kinesiology, Nutritional Sciences, and Pediatrics. The Graduate Certificate Program is an exciting professional opportunity for graduate students, and has resulted in research presentations at major conferences as well as publications. For more information, please view the Center’s website.
It is not too late for students to sign up for the CHHD seminar! Requirements for this 1-credit seminar include attendance at all the colloquia, plus three class meetings led by Professor Sara Harkness, Director of the CHHD, to discuss readings provided by the speakers. Students will also prepare short reports on one or more of the colloquium presentations, for posting on the CHHD website. To sign up for the class, find HDFS 302, section 1 in the catalog and contact Professor Harkness for a permission number at (Sara.Harkness@UConn.edu).
The 2007 colloquium series, which is co-sponsored by the Center for Eliminating Health Disparities among Latinos (CEHDL), will feature four distinguished speakers who will talk about research and programs related to health and development in diverse cultural contexts. All colloquia and class meetings, except for the May 2nd colloquium, will be held on Thursdays at 4:00 in room 18 of the Family Studies building. The schedule of speakers and discussion classes is as follows:
