Richard C. Antonelli, MD, MS, FAAP
He is Chief of the Division of Primary Care and Director of the Department of General Pediatrics of the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Hartford, CT. He is also Co-Head of the academic Division of General Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. A member of the faculty of the National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality (NICHQ), he has taught in two National Medical Home Learning Collaboratives focusing on quality improvement and coordination of care for children and youth with special healthcare needs.
He was in full time, community-based pediatric practice from 1987 until 2005, having served as the lead physician at Nashaway Pediatrics, in Sterling, MA and as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He is a member of the Project Advisory Committee, of the National Center for Medical Home Initiatives at the American Academy of Pediatrics. He served as Chairperson of the Committee on Disabilities of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
He served as Chairperson of the Planning Committee, Every Child Deserves a Medical Home Training Program, Boston, MA, 2001. He has served on several National Expert Panels on system design for primary care programs for children with special health care needs for the US Maternal and Child Health Bureau. He has addressed the Federal Interagency Coordinating Council on integrating services for children and youth with special health care needs within Medical Homes, highlighting opportunities for partnership with families and with Early Intervention agencies. He serves as Principal Investigator on several projects linking families to community-based organizations and to primary care Medical Homes on urban and regional scales. He has published data about the outcome efficacy and cost of care coordination services for children and youth with special health care needs and their families.
