Lee Pachter

Lee Pachter is professor of pediatrics and anthropology, and co-head of the division of general pediatrics at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and lecturer on pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.  He is the director of inpatient pediatrics at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Hartford, CT.  His research interests are in the fields of minority child health and development, multicultural health care, culturally competent care, and sociocultural influences on child health.  He has an NIH award to study perceptions of racism in minority children, and has received a grant from the CDC to study the effects of chronic poverty, maternal depression, parenting practices, and neighborhood effects on behavioral health and development in children from different racial/ethnic groups.  He was a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Center for Child Health Research’s Latino Consortium, and is the director of the APA New Century Scholars Program, a national mentorship program developed to increase workforce diversity in academic medicine.  He has been named Core Faculty in Culturally Competent Care at Harvard Medical School.  He is also associate editor of the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.
