Liana Garcia-Fresher
Ms. Garcia-Fresher graduated from the University of Connecticut’s School of Allied Health with a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Dietetics in 1985. Her Registration was conferred that same year. While working as a Public Health Nutritionist at the Westchester County Health Department in New York for the Women, Infant, Children Program, Garcia-Fresher started her Masters degree at New York Medical College. She received a degree in Health Care Management in 1989.
Garcia-Fresher returned to Connecticut in 1988 and started her career in nonprofit as the Program Director for the American Diabetes Association, Connecticut Affiliate. She quickly rose into the fundraising and administrative ranks of the organization during her 9 years there. She then took a position as Chief Executive Officer for Prevent Blindness Connecticut. There she established a plan to bring financial stability to the organization. She improved the operational deficit by 46% in her first year as CEO.
Currently, she is President of Fresher Consultants, LLC – a nutrition and non-profit management consulting group. Additionally, she works with the West Hartford / Bloomfield Health District coordinating, fulfilling and reporting on two State nutrition education grants in two communities.
Ms. Garcia-Fresher is active in the community serving as the Chair of the University of Connecticut Advisory Board for the Dietetic Program as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the School of Allied Health at the University. She has chaired numerous committees over the past twenty years for the Connecticut Dietetic Association. She is active in her local school system and in the local early education programs.
