Ellen Dornelas, Ph.D.
Ellen Dornelas, Ph.D. is the Director of Behavioral Health Programs, Preventive Cardiology at Hartford Hospital and holds a faculty appointment at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Dornelas is a health psychologist specializing in psychotherapy with cardiac patients and smoking cessation in special populations including: pregnant women, adolescents and medical patients. She has authored multiple research publications and book chapters on behavioral approaches to cardiac risk factor reduction. In collaboration with the MATCH Coalition, Urban Policy Strategies, and the Latino and Puerto Rican Affairs Commission, she developed Latino No Fumes: Protégé su Salud, a smoking cessation program delivered in Spanish and offered in sites throughout Connecticut. Dr. Dornelas is also the Co-Director of the Women's Heart Program at Hartford Hospital and coordinates many educational programs designed to increase awareness of the risk of heart disease among women.
