Donna ChapmanDonna J. Chapman, Ph.D., R.D.

Donna J. Chapman (donna.chapman@uconn.edu) is the Assistant Director of the Center for Eliminating Health Disparities Among Latinos.  Her research had focused on evaluating the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of breastfeeding peer counseling programs serving a low-income, predominantly Latina population in Hartford, CT.  She is currently evaluating the impact of a breastfeeding peer counseling intervention targeting obese women.  She has a strong research interest in lactogenesis stage II and has identified risk factors for delayed onset of lactation.  Dr. Chapman is an Assistant Professor-in-Residence in the Nutritional Sciences Department at the University of Connecticut, where she teaches Nutrition and Human Development.

Dr. Chapman has published 16 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at numerous scientific meetings.  She is currently serving as Interim Associate Editor for the Journal of Human Lactation and as an ad-hoc reviewer for Pediatrics.  Dr. Chapman received her BS degree in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Connecticut, a MS in Clinical Dietetics from Boston University, and a Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Connecticut.  She is a Registered Dietitian, and completed her dietetic internship at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.  Prior to pursuing her doctorate degree, Dr. Chapman worked at the University of Connecticut Health Center for 9 years, in various nutrition positions, including Director of Clinical Dietetics.
