Ann Ferris PhD
Ann Ferris completed her doctorate in Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Massachusetts in 1978. Since 1978, she has worked at the University of Connecticut, where she is now a full professor. Ann is currently co-director of the university, Center for Public Health and Health Policy and is affiliated with the Traveler's Center on Aging and the Child, Health, and Culture Center. She also holds joint appointments with the School of Medicine, Community Medicine and Health Care and the School of Allied Health Professions. Ann has received numerous awards over the years, including being named special guest editor for the Journal of Nutrition Education from 1989-1990. More recently, she has received the AAUP and CT State Legislature University Service Award in 2002 and the Gamma Sigma Delta Senior Faculty Award in 2000. Ann also currently serves on the Publications Management Committee for the American Society for Clinical Nutrition and was the 2002-2003 Public Nutrition Research Interest Section Chair for the American Society of Nutritional Sciences. Ann's current research interests include community and public health nutrition, specifically the nature of iron-deficiency anemia and childhood overweight of children living in poverty.
