Sharon Mierzwa, MPH, RD, is project director of the Health Equity Index Initiative with the Connecticut Association of Directors of Health, Inc. (CADH). CADH is a non-profit organization that provides statewide representation of all full-time local health departments and districts in Connecticut. The mission of CADH is to strengthen and assure the efficient and effective delivery of public health services throughout the state. Sharon designs, facilitates and conducts planning and workforce development sessions for local public health personnel on topics related to public health, emergency preparedness, regional planning, and health equity. She received her MPH degree from Tulane University School of Public Health, and has a B.S. degree in Foods & Nutrition from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She completed her dietetic internship at St. Joseph College in West Hartford, and was also an adjunct faculty member there. Her interests have focused on health promotion and disease prevention, particularly in program evaluation and the development of community-based, culturally appropriate interventions. She has served as the coordinator of the CT State Department of Public Health’s Obesity Prevention Program and also the Diabetes Control Program. She is the past president of the Connecticut Dietetic Association (CDA) and the Connecticut Nutrition Council, and has served as CDA’s public policy & legislative committee chairperson.
