Lauren A. Haldeman, Ph.D.

My area of research interest is in the nutritional assessment of and design of theory-based nutrition interventions for low-income Latino groups.  I have a strong interest in focusing on the effects of food insecurity and health beliefs, attitudes, barriers and psychosocial correlates (depression, anxiety, self-esteem and self-efficacy) on eating behaviors and dietary quality among this group.  Additionally, my work has included the examination of cultural adaptation resources available to aid in providing newly arrived Latinos with nutrition services necessary for maintaining optimal health.   A unique aspect of my research also includes secondary data analysis of the most recent National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).  These analyses have led to research related to differences in chronic disease risk among multiple ethnic and racial groups.  These analyses provide valuable insight into the nutritional needs of the U.S. population and serve as a basis for the development of targeted community-based interventions and reducing health disparities.
